The classic approach to copy & paste a measurement template was not automatable on a metal spring. The variation was too large and elements needed to be re-fitted manually. The adaptive measurement template reduced the necessary effort and led to a slim and automated process.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is quickly being recognized as a core technology for producing complex and individual components, with recent developments in system productivity, part design and more complex design elements. X-Ray based Computed Tomography (CT) is a well-established NDT method to detect geometrical defects for external and internal features.
Creating a part right at the first time and within the tolerances is often unlikely due to the complex geometry, the variety of process parameter settings and post processing steps. Warpage and shrinkage are common failures in metal PBF technologies, compensating for them in the input geometry will enhance the process efficiency and reduce wastage.
In this study the component was built by a Renishaw AM 400 SLM machine and scanned by a Nikon 225 MCT machine. The data processing and analysis was carried out by VGSTUDIO MAX 2022.1. This study will discuss geometric challenges that comes with different AM designs, design elements and processes and a workflow to create a compensated mesh after the first print to optimize the geometry for the following print iteration and minimizing the part distortion, thus enhancing overall AM process efficiency.

The presentation showed interesting applications that have been worked on by our Technical Consulting. TC is always used when tasks are very complex and go to the limit of what is technically as well as physically feasible. The TC advises customers with regard to the CT hardware to be used, the scan parameters and also provides solutions for analyses using VG software. In doing so, we think outside the box and also use unconventional approaches to solve a problem.
We pay special attention to applications in production, as scan time and so quality is limited and fully automated evaluation is required.

The battery is the most expensive and safety-relevant part in electric vehicles. Once sealed, it is only possible to inspect the critical internals via computed tomography. We at Volume Graphics provide tools that enable our users to develop more efficient batteries as well as to ensure their safety in production and beyond. Additionally, we give a glance in the ongoing developments that will further improve these inspection capabilities.

At UGM 2022, you were able to get the latest news on CT systems directly from leading CT manufacturers in the partner exhibition area. We were happy to count these companies among our exhibitors and thank them for their support.
At UGM 2022, you could take a break from everyday life and enter the world of racing. Many participants took part in a free guided tour and got insider knowledge about the famous Hockenheimring before heading out for dinner.
The evening event took place in the Baden-Württemberg-Centre and is located right next to paddock 2. Due to its unusual shape, participants could enjoy close to panoramic views from level 5 of most of the racing circuit, including the legendary Sachs Curve. They enjoyed views of the Motodrom, the pit area or the paddock from 15-20 m above the circuit during a cozy get-together.
